The British Are Coming!!

The British Are Coming to This Years CMA Picnic

The 1980 modern-class British America's Cup contender K 18 "Lionheart" is coming to Greenwich! She'll be at the Stamford Yacht Club for the CMA Picnic this year. Come aboard and see a part of sailing history. Both K 18 "Lionheart" and US 42 "America II" will be available for sailing out of Greenwich all summer!

The acquisition by the CT based l2m Yacht Development Foundation of 12 meter K-18 "Lionheart" along with 12metre US 42 "America II" will allow the 12 metre YDF to have a matched pair of authentic 12 metre yachts racing here in Long Island Sound out of Greenwich, CT. They will be able to re-create the excitement of the America's Cup Challenger and Defender "match race" series of the late 70s and 80s which employed the best of modern and "winged keel technology" that made these yachts legendary.

K 18 "Lionheart" is a "modern America's Cup class" 12m yacht designed by Ian Howlett, and built by Joyce Marine Shipyards in Southampton, UK in 1978 for Peter d Savary's ' British America's Cup challenger syndicate for the 1980 America's Cup in Newport, RI. K 18 "Lionheart" is a single helm, 67' LOA, 12.5' Beam, Draft 9', constructed of aluminum and was updated in the early 90ies with a complete "Grand Prix" rig from the US 1987 America's Cup contender - US 60 Eagle built in 1986 by Sparcraft for the 1987 challenge in Perth, Australia for heavy winds and seas much like our current Grand Prix 12m America II / US 42.

CMA Softball week 7/8

CMA Softball week 8

Welcome to the Friday recap on Thurday as most of us have tomorrow off.

The weather is improving but we still only got 2 games in but they were good ones.

Monday All Marine and Odin went toe to toe for seven innings. In a relativly low scoring game Odin was holding on to aone run leadand was just one out from victory when All Marinepushedacross two runs to snatch away a walkoff win 10-9.

Tuesday was a rainout.

Wednesday Stolt-Nielsen played their best game of the season and came away with the win over Moran Towing 9-5. The reports I heard back was a good time was had by all including a lenghty post game celebration.

The schedule for next week is:

Monday Glencore vrs All Marine

Tuesday Eitzen vrs Clipper

Wednesday Fairfield vrs Glencore

I hope everyone reallyenjoys this Independance Day holidayweekend. As for me I will be beaching it at the Jersey Shore.

CMA Softball week 7

Despite our continued lousy weather we did actually get two games in.

With muddy conditions and some off and on rain the Monday and Tuesday games were played.

Monday Eitzen continued their dominant play beating Stolt-Nielsen 26-4. Tuesday Fairfield showed off their bats with a 25-15 win over Atlas Dryguys.

Wednesday late afternoon showers proved to be to much for Glencore and Weber to overcome. Their game will be rescheduled.

It looks like we are now (finally) headed into a more summer-like weather pattern.

This week we have coming up:

Monday All Marine vrs Odin

Tuesday Clipper vrs Weber

Wednesday Stolt vrs Moran

Good luck to all and pray for good weather on Saturday when I get to play Father of the Bride.

CMA Softball week 6

CMA Softball week 6

Despite less than ideal conditions (unless your a duck) we managed to get all three games scheduled for this week into the books.

With a bit of a soft field mighty Eitzen continued their winning ways by defeating All Marine by the score of 13-5. Tuesday, Fairfield had some last minute problems fielding a team and forfeited to Weber. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to bring in teams for a make up game.

Wednesday Clipper and Moran Towing played a tight game except for the 3rd and 4th inning. I think we have all seen innings like that where you just can't seem to get anyone out. The final score Clipper 26 Moran 5. That is why we don't have a mercy rule.

This up-coming week we have:

Monday Stolt vrs Eitzen

Tuesday Fairfield vrs Atlas Dryguys

Wednesday Glencore vrs Weber

There were some problems on the softball section of theCMA website. That has been taken care of so you can find the latest info there. The new address is:

Silver What? Silver Bells of Course!

Rich du Moulin pulled it off again and thousands of shipping cognoscenti decended on Chelsea Piers for cocktails and dinner in honor of the Seaman's Church Institute. If you weren't there you were probably in Oslo for NorShipping. Or in my case, rockin' it out in Greenwich with my new band. Luckily the CMA president and numerous board members and members were there to fly the CMA flag and get jiggy with  Captain Phillips of the Maersk Alabama.
